In 1978, the Bead Shop in London, England began the concept of open-display bead stores. Finding a growing enthusiasm for beads and personal jewellery design, the company (JRM Beads, Ltd.) became a leading importer of beads from around the world. The growing investment and expertise led to an expansion into wholesaling and the company inspired the rapid growth of bead stores in many different countries.

Beadworks’ products are selected by a team of experienced beaders and jewellery makers. In 1983, a sister company, Beadworks, began trading in the United States as a mail order supplier. This led to the opening of the first US store in 1987. Today the American organization has two company stores and five franchise stores. Both companies continue to sell through mail order and wholesale, supplying designers, stores and individual customers around the world. The American company also distributes beads through its internet store, www.beadworks.com/us
