Care and Cleaning of Pearls
Pearls get dirty, just like any other jewellery, but you have to clean them with care or you'll end up with damaged gems. Use these cleaning tips to make sure your pearls live a long and lovely life.
- Wipe your pearls with a soft, lint free cloth before putting them away for storage.
- Put your pearls on AFTER you have applied makeup, perfume or lotions
- Store your pearls separately as they can be scratched by metal or stones on other jewelry
With proper care, your fine pearl jewellery will last for generations.
Use Storage Techniques that Do Not Damage Jewellery
DON'T put all your jewellery into one drawer. A diamond stone can scratch a pearl necklace or gold bead. Keep jewellery pieces separate and, ideally, wrapped in velvet, silk or a plastic zip-lock bag.
Care and Storage of Gold Beads and Jewellery
Remove gold jewellery before entering hot tubs or swimming pools. The chlorine in the water can erode gold jewellery. The risk of precious gemstones falling out of settings is also high. Keep gold jewellery away from harsh household cleaning fluids as they can create abrasions on gold. Clean gold jewelry with warm water and detergent-free soap.
Use a soft-bristled brush to clean the pieces.
